Kawardha BJP demands payment for sugarcane farmers
Daily Pioneer – 10 May 2019: Bharatiya Janata Party Kawardha district unit on Thursday handed over a memorandum to Kabirdham district collector, addressed to Chhattisgarh Governor, demanding immediate release of payment for the sugarcane procured from farmers among other issues.
District BJP leaders also staged a day-long sit-in-demonstration near Bharat Mata Statue, Ambedkar Chowk, Kawardha to press for their various demands.
The payment of sugarcane procured from the farmers at Rs 355 per quintal should be released immediately and remaining sugarcane standing on the field should be procured immediately were the two main issues raised by the BJP.
Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory, Ramhepur, Kawardha and Sardar Vallabhai Patel Cooperative Sugar Factory, Pandariya are the main procurers of sugarcanes from the farmers.
The BJP leaders pointed out that as per survey conducted by sugar factories, the complete sugarcane from farmers have not been procured.
Going by an estimate that 2.50 acres of land was cultivated by per farmer for sugarcane crop from December 2018 to April 2019 , eight procurement slips should have been given to each farmer. It is reported that even after 5 months, till date only 3-4 slips have been given to farmers.
Leaders alleged that due to delay in procurement farmers are incurring loss on standing sugarcane crop.
The BJP leaders demanded those share-holders and all other sugarcane farmers be provided relief by conducting a fresh survey carrying out open procurement. Failing to do, the farmers should be paid compensation on standing crop, they demanded.
Similarly, wages of workers and employees of sugarcane factories are pending for several months.
The BJP leaders demanded that they be paid regular wages in the first week of every month. The employees should be given 136 percent dearness allowance along with promotion and time-pay scale.
